Women's Tennis Falls To No. 4 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (3-9, 2-2 Big West) concluded its roadtrip with a 7-0 loss at No. 4 Stanford. The Cardinal, who are individually ranked on all six singles positions and all three doubles pairings, blanked the 'Bows on Sunday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Center.

After yesterday's intense match at No. 15 California, Hawai'i was dispatched efficiently on Sunday. The Cardinal's No. 3 and No. 1 doubles teams secured the doubles point with No. 41 Melissa Lord and Niluka Madurawe nearly shutting out UH's Alzbeta Houbova and Maayan Sela, 6-1 on the No. 3 court, while 12th-ranked Caroline Lampl and Kimberly Yee defeated Hawai'i's No. 1 duo of Petra Melounova and Nikola Dolakova, 6-2.

In singles, UH's 100th-ranked Melounova had her eight-match win streak snapped by 12th-ranked Lampl on the No. 1 court. Stanford's No. 46 Melissa Lord followed by knocking off Dolakova on the No. 3 court, 6-2, 6-2. Stanford then clinched the match on the No. 2 court with 28th-ranked Michaela Gordon pulled away from Sela, 6-2, 6-0. The closest match of the day came on the No. 4 court as UH's Michelle Pits forced a third set against #17 Emily Arbuthnot, 6-2, 26, 6-1.

The Rainbow Wahine return home to host their final homestand starting with three matches next week. The 'Bows will begin by taking on Santa Clara on Thursday, March 28. Hawai'i will then host Cal Poly in a Big West match on Saturday, March 30 followed by a dual match vs. San Jose State on Sunday, March 31.
