IRVINE, Calif. – University of Hawai'i beach volleyball players
Hi'ilawe Huddleston and
Kylin Loker were named the Big West Pairs Team of the Week after helping lead the SandBows to the Heineken Hawai'i Invitational this past weekend. It is the first such honor for Huddleston (Sr., Oceanside, Calif.) and Loker (Fr., Carlsbad, Calif.) and its already the third time this year a UH pair has earned the honor.
The duo went a perfect 4-0 over the weekend in defeating pairs from Boise State, Nebraska and No. 11 Cal. Three of their four wins came in straight sets with a average margin of victory of a whopping 11 points the three sweeps.
Meanwhile, their three-set decision over No. 11 Cal gave UH the clinching point in a 3-2 win over the Bears for the tournament championship. Loker was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player for her clutch play. Loker also crushed the game-winner in a 3-2 win over Cal the previous day with a different partner,
Pani Napoleon, at No. 4.
The Rainbow Wahine next face Nebraska in a dual match at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18 at the T.C. Ching Complex.
