KĀNE'OHE, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team (310-302-308=920) completed the 34
thDr. Donnis Thompson Invitational Wednesday in ninth place at the Kāne'ohe Klipper Golf Course on Marines Corps Base Hawai'i.
Senior
Kaci Masuda (77-73-73=223) led the Rainbow Wahine with a tie for ninth place, totaling 7-over 223 for the three rounds, including a closing 1-over 73 on Wednesday. The Pearl City, O'ahu native finished her final nine holes in 2-under par. The Top 10 finish was her first this season and sixth of her career.
Second-ranked Texas and SMU shared the team title with an 887 total. The Lady Longhorns repeated as champion. Four-time tourney champion Texas A&M finished nine strokes back at 896.
Texas A&M's Coutney Dow took medalist honors at even par 216 becoming the fifth Aggie to win the Thompson Invitational. Dow was the only golfer to finish even or better and was three strokes better than runner-up Marie Lund-Hansen of Washington State and Brigitte Dunn of SMU.
UH junior
Megan Ratcliffe (78-74-75=227) tied for 20
thplace at 227. Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine were freshman
Nicha Vorrasanpisut (77-76-81=234), who tied for 41
stplace; sophomore
Malia Ebersberger (78-80-79=237), who tied for 54
thplace; and sophomore
Tyra Tonkham (78-79-81=38), who tied for 60
thplace.
Freshman
Haruka Shintani (80-72-80=232) competed as an individual and tied for 36
that 16-over while sophomore Rachel Fujitani (79-82-75=236) capped her first tournament as a Rainbow Wahine in a tie for 50
thplace.
Sophomores
Sahara Washington and
Emma Lower both did not compete due to injury or illness.
The Rainbow Wahine will continue their homestand by hosting the Ānuenue Spring Break Classic, March 21-23, at the Waikoloa Resort Kings Course.
