SandBows Return Home To Host Heineken Hawai‘i Invitational

HONOLULU – The No. 6 University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team (4-4) will take on a trio of teams when it hosts the Heineken Hawai'i Invitational, March 16-17, at Queens Beach. Joining UH in the two-day tournament are Boise State (4-2), No. 11 Cal (7-1 ) and Nebraska (1-1).
 
Following the tournament, the Rainbow Wahine will host Nebraska in a dual match at the T.C. Ching Complex on Monday, March 18. The match will start at 4:00 p.m. with the top two flights starting play at 7:00 p.m., live on Spectrum Sports.
 
UH is a coming off a 2-2 performance in the East Meets West Invitational in Manhattan Beach, Calif. Hawai'i defeated No. 19 TCU and No. 9 Florida International and suffered close losses to No. 4 Florida State and No. 6 LSU. It has been an tough early slate for the Rainbow Wahine who have faced seven ranked squads in their first eight matches.
 
The SandBows have gotten their best play from the No. 3 court, where Ari Homayun and Julia Scoles have gone 7-1. During the stretch, the duo has beaten pairs from then-No. 3 Pepperdine and No. 4 Florida State with the lone loss coming to top-ranked UCLA. They have already twice been named the Big West Pairs Team of the Week.
 
The Opponents: Boise State is 4-2 this year and won two of three matches at the Portland Pilot Tournament last weekend…the Broncos beat Oregon and host Portland, before falling to Washington…Cal has lost just once in eight matches this year and picked up a big 3-2 win over rival Stanford this past weekend….Nebraska has won nine matches against a slew of junior colleges, though is just 1-1 against four-year institutions…the Huskers will take on Chaminade on March 14 before competing in the tournament.
 
Series History: UH is a perfect 14-0 all-time against this weekend's field….UH Is 4-0 against Boise State, including a pair of home wins last year…UH's lone meeting against Cal was a 5-0 sweep in Honolulu back in 2015…the SandBows are 9-0 against Nebraska, including a trio of wins in Honolulu last year…this will be the seventh straight season the teams will meet.
