HONOLULU – In a back-and-forth game, the University of Hawaiʻi baseball team fell by an 8-7 final score to Oregon on Sunday at Les Murakami Stadium. Oregon scored three runs in the top of the ninth to earn the comeback win.
 
Hawaiʻi (8-8) received a strong performance from freshman Max Crabbe, who went 3-for-4 with five RBIs in his first action in a UH uniform.
 
In his first career at bat, Crabbe knocked in a pair of runs with an RBI single in the bottom of the first for an early 2-0 lead. Crabbe struck again in the third, knocking in a run with an RBI single to extend the advantage to 3-0.
 
The Ducks took their first lead with a four-run fifth inning.
 
UH regained the upper hand in the bottom of the fifth when Crabbe came through with another clutch hit with runners on second and third. His single up the middle plated Daylen Calidcan and Baeza for a 5-4 advantage.
 
After a leadoff single from Tyler Best in the sixth, Alex Baeza cranked his fourth home run of the season for a 7-4 edge.
 
The Ducks chipped away with a run off an Aaron Zavala sacrifice fly in the seventh before putting together the three-run ninth. Zavala delivered a two-RBI double to level the score at 7-7 before Tanner Smith's go-ahead RBI single.
 
For the 'Bows, which finished with 10 hits on the day, Daylen Calicdan knocked two hits and scored two runs.
 
On the mound, starter Dominic DeMiero went 4.1 innings with three strikeouts while giving up two earned runs on four hits. Colin Ashworth went 1.0 innings without a run followed by Cade Smith, who pitched 2.1 innings while yielding one run on two hits.
 
The Rainbow Warriors will complete their 20-game home stand with a four-game set at Les Murakami Stadium versus Cal State Bakersfield. The two sides will play single games over four days (March 14-17).
