HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (2-3, 0-0 Big West) returns home to host a pair of dual matches against Pacific. The two teams will square off on Saturday, Feb. 9 and Sunday, Feb. 10. Both matches are slated to start at 12:00 p.m.
The Rainbow Warriors return from Las Vegas, Nev. after playing in the UNLV Tournament. The 'Bows split their dual matches, winning the first two over Weber State and UC Riverside on the first day, before falling to host UNLV and former Western Athletic Conference rival, New Mexico State.
Leading the UH charge has been freshman
Andre Ilagan. Ilagan, who is 4-0 overall in dual matches, moved up to play at No. 1 against UCR, UNLV and NMSU this past week. He had started the season playing on the No. 2 court. Ilagan notched three wins over the weekend, with his fourth match going unfinished. He recorded a pair of sweeps over Weber State's Junhao Ye and UCR's Kyle McCann and then came back to defeat UNLV's Olle Thestrup in three sets, 6-3. 3-6. 6-3. Ilagan and doubles partner
Lucas Labrunie also moved up from No. 2 to the No. 1 court in doubles over the weekend as they went 2-1 in Las Vegas with wins over Weber State and UC Riverside.
Labruinie also did well this past trip, posting three singles wins all at No. 3. Labrunie battled back to defeat Weber State's Michiel Van Schoor, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and followed that with a pair of straight-set wins. He knocked off UCR's Vignesh Subramanyan, 6-3, 6-2 then dispatched UNLV's Richard Solberg, 6-3, 6-2.
The Pacific Tigers enter this week at 1-1 overall. Four of its six dual matches to start this season have already been canceled or postponed due inclement weather. Pacific has split the only two matches that they have been able to play, falling to Big West rival, UC Davis, 2-4 and defeating Eastern Washington, 6-1.
