Homayun And Scoles Earn Big West Weekly Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – University of Hawai'i beach volleyball players Ari Homayun and Julia Scoles claimed the first Big West Pairs Team of the Week award of 2019 after going 3-1 during the opening weekend of the season.

The senior Homayun (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and junior Scoles (Mooresville, N.C.), a transfer from North Carolina, displayed incredible chemistry in their first time playing together. Competing at the No 3. flight, the pair had the best weekend of any UH squad, by winning three of its four matches with its lone loss coming to No. 1 UCLA. The duo was absolutely dominant in its wins with all three coming in straight sets, including a pair against nationally-ranked teams.

They won their three matches by a whopping 56 combined points and an average margin of 9.3 points per set. The weekend was highlighted by a convincing 21-16, 21-9 sweep of Skylar Caputo and Jenna Tunnell of No. 4 Pepperdine. The duo also defeated pairs from Saint Mary's and No. 11 Stanford. Scoles was named the Best Attacker following the conclusion of the tournament.

The No. 6 Rainbow Wahine will have this weekend off before competing in the East Meets West Challenge, March 9-10, in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
