LIHU'E, KAUA'I – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team completed the first round of the 43
rd John A. Burns Intercollegiate in 20
th place following a 304 Thursday at the Wailua Golf Course.
The Rainbow Warriors were paced by sophomore
Justin Arcano, who carded a 1-over 73 and currently sits in a tie for 42
nd place.
Three-time Burns champion 24
th-ranked BYU (280) holds a one-stroke lead in the team standings over two-time champion Texas A&M (281). Eleventh-ranked Arizona State (282) is third followed by No. 48 Saint Mary's (284) and No. 2 Duke (285).
Individually BYU's Peter Kuest and Washington State's Daniel Kolar share the lead at 6-under 66.
Also competing for the Rainbow Warriors are seniors
Cameron Kaneko (76) and
Bryden Salvador (77) and sophomores
Justin Ngan (78) and
Cole Yoshida (78). Kaua'i-native Salvador, who is competing in his final Burns Intercollegiate, posted third birdies on his round.
Four UH golfers are competing as individuals – sophomore
Matt Lloyd (78), sophomore
Trevor Hirata (80), junior
Nick Nelson (80), and freshman
AJ Teraoka (90).
The second round continues on Friday with a 8:00 a.m., shotgun start.
