RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team currently sits in 10
thplace at the Battle at the Rock when play was suspended due to darkness Monday at the Oak Quarry Golf Club.
The Rainbow Wahine shot a first round 303 and is 10-over after 11 holes of Round 2. UH is two strokes out of eighth place and 11 strokes out of second in the 15-team tournament, hosted by UC Riverside. Big West member Cal Poly is currently atop the leaderboard at 8-over par, which included a first round 291.
The start of Round 1 was delayed due to frost. The teams will pick up where they left off and begin the third and final round upon the completion of Round 2.
UH sophomore
Sahara Washington is currently tied for 19
thplace at 5-over par. She opened with a 3-over 75 and is 2-over in Round 2. Junior
Megan Ratcliffe had the best first round score among the Rainbow Wahine contingent at 2-over 74 and is 4-over in her second round, 6-ver for the tournament.
Senior
Kaci Masuda is 7-over after a first round 78 while newcomers
Haruka Shintani and
Nicha Vorrasanpisut each carded opening round 77. Shintani is 3-over in Round 2 and Vorrasanpisut is 4-over.
Cal Poly's Elizabeth Scholtes holds a one-stroke lead at 2-under par over a group of three golfers. Scholtes recorded eight birdies in her first round 68.
The Battle of the Rock is the spring opener for the Rainbow Wahine, who will compete in five spring tournaments.
