HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (3-4, 0-0 Big West) fell to Pacific 4-2 on a very blustery and rainy day at the UH Tennis Complex. In the middle of some downpours, the Rainbow Warriors and Tigers were able to get their second-straight match against each other in. The Tigers avenged their loss to the Rainbow Warriors on Saturday. The match got a late start due to some morning Manoa rain showers. Due to the inclement weather, the teams started with singles.
 
Hawai'i's No. 3 Blaz Seric started things with a sweep over Pacific's Tadiwa Chinamo, 6-3, 6-3. But the Tigers then reeled off the next three wins with No. 4 Akram El Sallaly holding off UH's Asad Siyyid, 6-4, 7-6 (4). No. 2 Ross Watson also won in a second set tie-breaker over Lucas Labrunie, 6-4, 7-6 (5) while The Tigers' Johnathan Liu outlasting Tristan Martins in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 to give Pacific a 3-1 lead.
 
On the No. 1 court, UH's Andre Ilagan battled back to take the second set after dropping the first set. In the third, Phillip Hjorth was serving for the match, but Ilagan broke Hjorth and then held his serve to take a 6-5 lead. Ilagan was up 0-30 with Hjorth serving, but Hjorth came back to tie the set at 6-6. Hjorth then took the tiebreaker (which was interrupted by a brief rain delay) for the win, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (3).
 
Hawai'i's No. 6 Simon Telo Alves' match was also interrupted by the rain delay in the third set. He was up 5-2 in the third against Josef Southcombe with the skies opened for a few minutes. They came back and Alves held his serve to complete the comeback just before the rain poured down again, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
 
The Rainbow Warriors will have a few days to prepare to play in the Pacific Mountain Invitational in Stockton, Calif. from March 2-3, 2019.
