KAILUA-KONA, Hawai'i – University of Hawai'i junior
Tyra Tonkham carded a 2-over 75 in the first round of the Nanea Pac-12 Preview Monday at the Nanea Golf Club.
Tonkham posted three birdies and five bogeys and sits in a tie for 31
st place to lead the Rainbow Wahine. The Arleta, Calif., native is coming off her best 54-hole score last week with a 3-under 213 and tie for fourth place finish at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
As a team, UH is in 12
th place with a 316 total. Junior
Sahara Washington is one stroke behind Tonkham at 3-over 76 and is tied for 40
th place. Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine are senior
Megan Ratcliffe (82, 58
th), sophomore
Haruka Shintani (83, 59
th), and senior
Malia Ebersberger (86, 59
th).
Eighth-ranked Arizona leads a highly competitive field with a 282 total, three strokes ahead of 22
nd-ranked UCLA. No. 15 Oregon is third (287), followed by No. 5 USC (290), top-ranked Stanford (294), No. 2 Arizona State (295), and No. 33 Oregon State (299).
Individually, Oregon's Amy Matsuoka and Arizona's Therese Warner share top honors at 5-under 68.
Tuesday's second round begins with a 7:30 a.m., HT shotgun start.
