COLFAX, Wash. - For the sixth time this season, graduate student
Shannon McClish led the Hawai'i cross country team in their efforts at the NCAA West Regional at the Colfax Country Club on Friday.
The Rainbow Wahine improved on last season's West Regional finish of 35th place with a 30th place finish in 2019. As a team the Wahine finished with an average time of 22 minutes, 42 seconds and improved their team average time by two minutes and 20 seconds to show positive strides from 2019 with a roster primarily made up of underclassmen.
"I was really pleased with the overall team result in the rain and chilly weather," Hawaii head coach
Tim Boyce said. "We finished the year strongly and am excited for the future with such a young group."
The Bows' top three runners of McClish (21:46.2), and freshmen
Rebecca DeKay (22:03.3) and
Sophia Lodigiani (22:21.7) posted times under 23 minutes with McClish finishing under 21 minutes.
"We came in looking at a list of teams where we thought we could improve from last year and beat some teams," Boyce said. "We look at the results and there are still a few teams within grasp to pass next year with such a young and talented group."
Following the top three, junior
Sienna Santiago (23:37.6), sophomore
Olivia Hill (23:41.0), freshman
Sarriah Brown (23:58.8) and sophomore
A'ja-Faith Greene (25:48.5) rounded out the traveling squad for Hawai'i.
The distance crew will now join the track squad for training leading up to the squad's first track meet on January 18th at Clarence T.C. Ching Complex.
