KAPOLEI, O'ahu - Junior
Tyra Tonkham eagled the 18th hole at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at Kapolei Golf Club on Monday and moved the University of Hawai'i women's golf team into ninth-place to finish the day.
Tonkham led the 'Bows by shooting an even-par round of 72 highlighted by the only eagle of the day and two birdies. The Arleta, Calif., native is two strokes off the lead held by Sac State's Cloe Grand, who is competing as an individual, and carded a 2-under 70. A group of four golfers are one stroke back at 1-under.
Sophomore
Haruka Shintani followed Tonkham closely with a Round 1 score of 75 and is tied for 27th followed by junior
Sahara Washington and senior
Megan Ratcliffe's matching scores of 77 that place them tied for 45th. Senior
Malia Ebersberger's round of 79 puts her in a tie for 55th.
Sam Houston State (289) holds a slight edge over Sacramento State (291) in the team standings heading into Round 2 on Tuesday.
Two other UH golfers are competing as individuals - freshman
Kralyn Salazar (80, t-61st) and junior
Zoey Akagi-Bustin (81, t-64th).
Ebersberger will tee-off first for Hawai'i at 7:30 a.m. HT.
