SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—The No. 19 University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team (14-3, 4-2 Big West) bounced back to sweep UC Santa Barbara on the road, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19 on Saturday night. Freshman outside hitter Hanna Hellvig led Hawai'i with a match-high 14 kills while senior outside McKenna Ross came though with 12 kills to help lead UH to the win at the Thunderdome in Santa Barbara, Calif.
 
With the win, Hawai'i split their weekend roadtrip to California's central coast after getting swept at Cal Poly last night. The Rainbow Wahine snapped UCSB's 10-straight home match win streak that dated back to last season against Cal State Fullerton, on November 16, 2018. It also marked UH's 10^th-straight win at the Thunderdome in Santa Barbara. The match lasted just one hour and 37 minutes.
 
Hellvig had her streak of eight-straight double-digit kill matches snapped last night at Cal Poly, but rebounded with her 13 double-figure kill matches this year.  She also was in on two blocks and five digs.
 
For Ross, it marked her third double-digit kill match of the season. She hit a season-high .300 (12-3-30). She also had six digs and two blocks in the win.
 
Senior setter Norene Iosia recorded her sixth-straight double-double with 16 assists and a match-high 14 digs. It was her ninth of the season and 54^th of her career. Iosia added two kills and a service ace. She now needs just one ace to tie former UH standout, Nikki Taylor for No. 8 on UH's career record in  aces at 117. Fellow senior setter Bailey Choy dished out a match-high 19 assists with two digs. Choy also recorded a service ace at set point to seal the second set at 25-22.
 
In the middle, Hawai'i freshman Amber Igiede had eight digs with two blocks and three digs, while junior Skyler Williams added seven kills and hit .545 (7-1-11) and was also in on a pair of blocks.
 
In the first set, UH trailed by as much as four points early at 8-4. Later, the 'Bows quickly erased their deficit. With Igiede serving, UH went on a 5-to-0 run to catch and overtake the Gauchos, 15-13. UH never looked back and would extend their lead to as many as six points at 23-17. The 'Bows would go on to take the first set, 25-20. The set win snapped UCSB's 14-set win streak which dated back to their match against CSUN earlier this season on September 24.
 
Hawai'i built a four point lead late in the second set, 19-15. But the Gauchos would rally to tie the score at 19-19 with four straight points. The set would be tied twice more times before a pair of Ross kills and a service ace by Choy gave UH a 25-20 win in Set 2.
 
The third set saw eight tied scores and three lead changes, but after the Gauchos tied the score at 13-13, Hawai'i went on a pivotal 7-to-0 run with junior defensive specialist Kyra Hanawahine serving. Hanawahine accounted for two points on her own with a pair of service aces during the run that gave UH a 20-13 lead from which UCSB was not able to recover from. Ross had a booming kill from the back row to give the 'Bows match point and UH ended the night with a double block by Hellvig and Igiede to end it at 25-19.

Hawai'i out-hit the Gauchos, .286-to-.175. UCSB had been leading the league with a team hitting percentage of .261. For UH, it was their highest hitting percentage since recording .286 against West Virginia (Sept. 12). UC Santa Barbara out-blocked UH 7.0-to-5.0. The five blocks by Hawai'i tied their season-low set at Cal Poly in the previous match. 

Lindsey Ruddins had a double-double to lead UC Santa Barbara with 12 kills and 11 digs. Deni Wilso posted a match-high four blocks and Zoe Fleck had a team-high 12 digs.
 
The Rainbow Wahine return home to host a pair Big West matches. The 'Bows will play UC Riverside on Friday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. UH will then host UC Davis on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 5:00 p.m. UH will be celebrating the 25^th Anniversary of the Stan Sheriff Center during Sunday's match vs. UC Davis.
