HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swim teams will host their final event of the season at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex on Saturday with Minnesota at 12:00 p.m. HT.
Saturday's meet will be the third in just eight days for UH and will be the last meet till the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships in late February.
"We've been making adjustments and fine tuning our race strategies with these meets to prepare for the conference championships," said head coach
Dan Schemmel. "We are putting a lot of emphasis on details. We're looking at all of our details such as our starts, our finishes, our turns, and a lot of pace work. Once we get to the conference, we want everyone to be on auto-pilot."
On the women's side, UH currently ranks No. 1 in the MPSF, No. 3 in NCAA Division I Mid-Majors, and No. 33 in all of NCAA Division I. Entering the competition with the Gophers, junior
Phoebe Hines ranks No. 1 in the 1650 Free (15:41.35), No. 3 in the 1000 Free (9:35.71), and No. 7 in the 500 Free (4:38.11). Joining Hines in the national rankings is sophomore
Kionna Clayton as she is No. 25 in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.20), and fellow sophomore
Karolina Hajkova finds her name in the 100 backstroke at No. 19 (52.39).
For the men, UH is ranked No 3 in the MPSF and No. 15 in NCAA Division 1 Mid Majors. Junior
Olli Kokko is ranked No. 15 in the 100 breaststroke, while the team ranks No. 23 in the 400 Medley Relay.
The event with the Gophers will also be senior day for the Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wahine as 14 members of this year's squad will be recognized for their careers at UH, 10-15 minutes before the start of the meet.
