HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i diving team wrapped up its only home event of the season with the third and final day of the Wally Nakamoto Diving Invite at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Center on Saturday.
Much like they did in the previous two days with the one-meter and three-meter springboard dives, the men's side of the squad led the pack in the platform dive. On Thursday senior
Johan Sandell took first-place in the three-meter dive, with freshman
Max Burman capturing a first-place finish in the one-meter on Friday. On Saturday, junior
Lucas Cooperman came out on top of the platform dive with a score of 316.40, completing the Rainbow Warriors' sweep of first place finishes in the event.
"Luke did a good job and made the NCAA Zone Qualifying meet with his score," said head diving coach
Mike Brown. "So that was good since he had not qualified before today. Johan had an outstanding performance which would have scored over 370 points if it wasn't for an error we missed on his last dive."
On the women's side, UH continued to improve but were not able to crack the top three positions of the podium. Sophomore
Ivy Houser finished at No. 5 to lead the way with a score of 196.95.
The regular season portion of the schedule will conclude in two weeks when UH travels to UCLA for the Bruin Diving Invitational Jan. 18-20.
