HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team completed Day 2 of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on a blustery Friday at the UH Tennis Complex.
 
Hawai'i started the day strong, winning three of four doubles matches. UH's duo of Maayan Sela and Nikola Dolakova edged out Washington State's Tiffany Mylonas and Aneta Miksovska, 7-5, while the Rainbow Wahine team of Alzbeta Houbova and Michelle Pits defeated WSU's Hikaru Sato and Melisa Ates also by a break, 6-4. Hawai'i's Sophia Storch and Roxanne Resma doubled up on Michaela Bayerlova and Yang Lee, 6-3.
 
In singles however, it was Washington State who outlasted Hawai'i in six of seven tough matches—four of which went the distance to three sets. UH's Houbova was the lone Rainbow Wahine to capture a victory. After dropping the first set, 0-6, Houbova battled back to take the next two sets for the win, 6-2, 6-4.  UH's Sela was serving for match point leading at 5-4 in the third set against Savanna Ly-Nguyen, but Ly-Nguyen staved off the point and went on to even the third set at 5-5. She then took the final two games for the win, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
 
For the first time in her four-year career, the durable senior Roxanne Resma was forced to retire in her singles match due to injury.
 
The two teams will battle on the final day of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 5. First serve is slated for 10:00 a.m.
