HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (2-1) fell to Washington, 4-1 on Thursday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. 
 
The Huskies took the doubles point, winning on Courts No. 2 and 1. UW's Stacey Fung and Nika Zupancic came back on the No. 1 court to defeat UH's Petra Melounova and Roxanne Resma, 6-4 to secure the doubles point. Hawai'i's No. 3 duo of Michelle Pits and Alzbeta Houbova were leading 5-4 when the doubles point was won.
 
In singles, the Huskies won the first three matches  that were finished to clinch the match. UH's Pits was able to notch UH's lone win on the afternoon on the No. 4 court. Pits fell in the first set, but bounced back to take the second to even the match at a set apiece. She went on to win the super-tiebreaker, 10-4 over Kenadi Hance before the rains came. Unfortunately, the last two matches went unfinished. Hawai'i's No. 1 Melounova was locked in a battle against Fung. UW's Fung held off Melounova in the first set by a break, but the second set was tied at 6-6 with Melounova leading 4-3 in the tie-breaker when the rain started to fall. The other unfinished match was between UH's Houbova and UW's Zupano on the No. 6 court. Zupano cruised to a 6-1 win in the first set. But Houbova responded by taking the second set, 6-3. They were knotted in a super tiebreaker with Houbova leading 4-3 when the match was abruptly called due to inclement weather.
 
The same two teams plus No. 12 Ole Miss will compete over the next two days in the Weinman Foundation Invite, which runs from Jan. 18-19 at the UH Tennis Complex. Friday's matches start at  3:00 p.m. while Saturday's matches are slated to start at 11:00 a.m.
