HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team (4-4, 0-0 Big West) fell in straight sets to No. 12 Oregon, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 on Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. Sarah Liva led UH with nine kills while Natasha Burns added eight.

It was the first time this season that Hawai'i did not have a player with double-digits in kills. As a team, the 'Bows were out-hit .297-to-.179  with UH posting 35 total kills with 16 errors in 106 attacks. The Ducks edged out the 'Bows in blocks, 5.0-to-4.0.

Liva was efficient as she hit for a .500 hitting percentage with just one error in 16 attacks. She also added a service ace, an assist and two blocks. Burns hit the 200-career kill milestone on her first kill of the night. She hit .300 (8-2-20) and also had two blocks. Combined, the two middle had 17 out of UH's 35 kills.

Tita Akiu kept her streak of double-digit digs alive, posting a match-high 16. She also dealt a pair of aces and dished out five assists in the match. McKenna Granato also recorded double-digit digs with 10. She finished the night with seven kills and a block.

The match was close early in Set 1, but after the score was tied at 11-11, Oregon went on a 4-to-0 run to take a 15-11 lead from which UH could not recover from. The Ducks pulled away to take the first set, 25-18.

Things were looking good for Hawai'i in Set 2 as they jumped out to a 7-1 lead to start. But the Ducks battled back, scoring six of the next seven points, and UH's lead was cut to 8-7. Oregon would eventually tie the set at 12-12, but from that point, UH went on a 7-to-0 run to take a 19-12 lead. Hawai'i would go on to lead, 21-13, but the Ducks would rally to end the set going away on a 12-to-2 run to steal Set 2, 25-23.

Set 3 was a game of runs early on. Oregon jump out to a 5-2 lead to force UH to call an early timeout. Hawai'i responded with a 5-to-0 run of their own to take a 7-5 lead. The Ducks would see-saw ahead on a 6-to-1 run to go up, 11-8. But the 'Bows battled back to tie the set at 11-11 on a 3-0 run. After trading some sideouts, Oregon slowly pulled away to complete the sweep with a 25-22 Set 3 score.

Oregon was led by Lindsey Vander Weide who recorded a match-high 15 kills while Ronika Stone was right behind her with 12 kills.

The two teams will square off again on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center. Prior to the UH vs. UO match, Hawai'i will host its annual Alumnae Game which is slated to start at 4:30 p.m. This year over 40 players are expected to either play or support their fellow UH alums.
