IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team fired a first round 308 Sunday at the Big West Conference Championship held at Strawberry Farms Golf Club.
The Rainbow Wahine currently sits in eighth place heading into Monday's second round. Long Beach State leads the team standings following a 285, 10 strokes ahead of second place UC Davis. Three of the 49ers five golfers shot even par or better led by Jennifer Yu's 1-under 70.
Leading the way for UH are freshmen
Emma Lower and
Tyra Tonkham, who each shot 4-over 75. After starting her front nine 5-over, Lower went 1-under on the back which included birdies at Nos. 10 and 11. Tonkham had a reverse round going 1-under through her first nine holes but 5-over on the back. The duo are in a six-way tie for 14
thplace.
One stroke back is junior
Kaci Masuda, who carded 76 in an up-and-down round that included two birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey. Sophomore
Megan Ratcliffe is tied for 36
thwith an 82 while freshman
Sahara Washington carded an 86 and is in 40
thplace.
The Rainbow Wahine will tee off Round 2 beginning at 8:30 a.m. PT.
