SandBows Breeze Past Competition On Senior Night

HONOLULU – The No. 3 University of Hawai'i women's beach volleyball closed out its regular-season schedule with a pair of dominating  wins over Boise State and Arizona State Sunday at the T.C. Ching Athletic Complex.

In a carbon copy of Saturday's results, UH defeated the Sun Devils (10-17) and Broncos (3-9) by identical 5-0 scores. The SandBows (32-3) won every single match by straight sets to give a fitting send off to Allyssah Fitterer, Carly Kan, Emily Maglio, Laurel Weaver, Ka'iwi Schucht, Laurel Weaver, and Hannah Zalopany in their final regular-season home appearances at Ching Complex.

It was a special night for Schucht particularly, who teamed with Maglio for a pair of wins Sunday that pushed her to 100 overall for her career.  The native of Escondido, Calif., is just the third SandBow to reach that plateau, joining Nikki Taylor (105) and Katie Spieler (102).

Maglio and Schucht extended their school-record win streak to 23 straight matches. Ari Homayun and Amy Ozee have won 21 in a row at the No. 4 court, while Morgan Martin and Lea Monkhouse are undefeated in 16 straight and 25 of their last 26 matches.

Carly Kan and Laurel Weaver also went undefeated over the weekend in their final Ching Complex matches and have now won 14 of their last 15 matches at the No. 3 court. Meanwhile, fellow senior Hannah Zalopany has won 20 of her last 21 matches at the No. 5 court.

The Rainbow Wahine will head into the 2018 Big West Tournament riding a 27-match win streak. UH, the two-time defending champion, will be hosting the event at Queen's Beach with the team competition running April 27-28 and the pairs competition on April 29.
