HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (3-2, 1-1 Big West) got back in the win column with a 5-1 victory over Grand Canyon (4-8, 0-0 WAC) on Friday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.
 
With expected rain in the area, the match started with singles instead of doubles. UH's No. 1 Petra Melounova cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win over Martina Lo Pumo. GCU then evened the match at 1-1 with Emilia Occhipinti defeated Klara Pribylova on the No. 3 court, 6-0, 6-4. But the Rainbow Wahine then reeled off four wins on the No. 2, 4, 6, and 5 courts. No. 3 Nikoka Dolakova pulled away from Emilia Occhipinti at No. 2, 7-5,6-0. Michelle Pits knocked off in straight sets, Valentina Mokrova, 6-4, 6-2 on the No. 4 court. UH No. 6 Alzbeta Houbova defeated Kylie Waschuk, 7-6 (4), 6-2. No. 5 Roxanne Resma capped the match, coming back to defeat Celina Buhr, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
 
Hawai'i will play one more match this weekend, facing San Diego State (6-4 0-0 Mountain West) on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2:00 p.m.
