HONOLULU—The University of Hawaii'i women's tennis team (2-2, 1-1 Big West) returns to the UH Tennis Complex this week as they take on Grand Canyon (4-2, 0-0 WAC) on Friday, Feb. 23 at 3:30 and San Diego State on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2:00 pm.
Hawaii went 2-1 on their first road trip to California in 2018. The Rainbow Wahine defeated both San Diego, 4-2 and then Long Beach State, 5-2 before falling at UC Davis, 4-2.
UH's sophomore
Petra Melounova won both of her singles matches to start the roadtrip on the No. 1 court and her No. 2 doubles clash with partner
Roxanne Resma to start their swing through Cali. She led San Diego's Nicole Anderson 6-2 and 1-0 in the second set when her opponent retired. Against the Beach, Melounova dispatched Lena Pacholski by scores of 7-5, 6-2 to put the 'Bows up 2-0 in the match. UH got out to the 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point, helped along by Melounova and Resma winning 6-2 over Lalita Devarakonda and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri. The UH duo had a match against San Diego go unfinished with the score tied 6-6.
Also recording wins in both the San Diego and Long Beach State matches were
Nikola Dolakova,
Klara Pribylova and
Michelle Pits. Dolakova and Pribylova both improved to 4-8 overall in singles while Pits remains the team-leader at 7-4.
In doubles, UH's duo of Dolakova and Pribylova leads Hawaii'i with a 7-5 record overall while
Alzbeta Houbova and
Marina Hruba are right behind with an overall record of 6-4.
