LIHU'E, Kaua'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team finished in 20
th place following Saturday's final round at the 42
nd John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Wailua Golf Course.
The Rainbow Warriors fired a final round 301 – its best of the tournament – for a 917 total. Fourth-ranked Texas A&M rallied to capture its second Burns title and first since 2009 with an 835 total. No. 49 UNLV, the leader after the first two rounds, finished second with No. 28 North Carolina at 852.
Individually, Texas A&M's Chandler Phillips became the tournament's first back-to-back and two-time champion, firing a final round 5-under 67 for a 13-under 203 total. UNC-Wilmington's Blake McShea was runner-up at 10-under par and Saint Mary's Perry Cohen and Texas A&M's Josh Gliege tied for third at 7-under.
Among UH's 10 golfers, sophomore
Trevor Hirata was UH's best finisher at tied for 59
th at 5-over 221 with a final round 74. Competing as an individual, the Hilo, Hawai'i native posted three birdies and five bogeys on his round.
Competing for the team score, junior
Cameron Kaneko shot 1-over 73 and tied for 93
rd at 229 along with freshman
Justin Ngan, who carded a final round 76. Fellow freshman
Justin Arcano posted his best round of 74 to tie for 98
th at 230 while senior
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon fired a 78 and tied for 104
th at 231.
