Anson Cabello qualified for the 2026 Sony Open in Hawai'i after winning a qualifier, Nov. 24 at Wai'alae Country Club.
The Kahului, Maui native shot 1-under 71 to edge UH teammate
Dane Watanabe and Tyler Loree by two strokes.
The Sony Open runs Jan. 15-18, 2026 at Wai'alae Country Club.
This marks the seventh time a Rainbow Warrior has qualified for a PGA Tour event. Most recently, Blaze Akana competed in the Sony Open in 2023 and '24. Other former 'Bows who qualified for the Sony while competing for UH were T.J. Kua (2010) and David Saka (2011).
In addition, freshman
Chris Salem bested Watanabe in the Championship Flight of the Hawai'i State Open, which took place Dec. 4-6 at Kapolei Golf Course. Salem and Watanabe each finished at 4-under 212. Salem rallied from four strokes back with five holes to play to win a playoff.
Also competing the field were
James Whitworth and
Nathan Szpakowicz, who both tied for low round on the final day to finish fourth and seventh place, respectively.
