RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Led the freshman
Sahara Washington, the University of Hawai'i women's golf team finished in second place at the Battle at the Rock tournament following Tuesday's third and final round at the Oak Quarry Golf Club.
Washington, a Universal City, Texas native, missed a four-foot birdie putt on her final hole that would have put her in a three-way playoff for medalist honors. Instead she finished alone in third place at 4-under 212 after a final round 1-under 71. The freshman carded two birdies and one bogey on the day.
As a team, the Rainbow Wahine finished second at 882, eight strokes behind champion UC Davis (874). Both teams were paired up in the final round along with fellow Big West Conference member UC Riverside which tied for third with Stetson at 886. The runner-up finish is UH's second in five tournaments this season.
Junior
Kaci Masuda shot 1-over 73 to tie for 14
th at 5-over 221. The Pearl City, O'ahu native posted three birdies on her round – 12 for the tourney. Freshman
Emma Lower shot a final round 77 to finish at 9-over 225 and a tie for 30
th place.
Sophomore
Megan Ratcliffe birdied two of her final three holes to finish at 4-over 76 and 12-over 228 for the tourney to finish in a tie for 38
th place. Freshman
Tyra Tonkham also finished at 228 following a final round 78.
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the Bruin-Wave Invitational, Feb. 26-27, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., before playing host to the consecutive tournaments in March.
