Women's Tennis Concludes Roadtrip At UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (2-1, 2-0 Big West) concludes its first roadtrip of 2018 with a dual match at UC Davis (5-1, 0-0 BWC). The two teams will square off in a Big West Conference match on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 11:30 am HT at the Marya Welch Tennis Center in Davis, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine won their first two dual matches on this road swing. First the 'Bows knocked off the San Diego Toreros and the UH pulled away from Long Beach State, 5-2. Four of the Rainbow Wahine won both of their singles matches to help lift UH to victories. Petra Melounova (No. 1), Nikola Dolakova (No. 3), Klara Pribylova (No. 4) and Michelle Pits (No. 5) all came out on top this past week.

For just the second and third times this season, UH's No. 1 singles player, Melounova was able to compete in both singles and doubles. She helped lead the 'Bows to a pair of road wins at USD and LBSU. Melounova won by retirement over San Diego's Nicole Anderson on the No. 1 court, 6-2, 1-0 (ret.).  She followed the shortened match by downing Long Beach State's Lena Pacholski, 7-5, 6-2 to go 2-0 to start their roadtrip. In doubles, along with partner Roxanne Resma, UH's No. 1 duo battled with the Toreros' Daniela Morales and Kati Kukaras on the No.2 court, but their match went unfinished at 6-6. But against the 49ers on the No. 2 court Melounova and Resma combined to knock off LBSU's Lalita Devarakonda and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri, 6-2.

Hawai'i's Michelle Pits continues to lead UH with a 7-3 overall singles record. On the No. 5 court last week, Pits clinched the match at San Diego with a three set win over  Maria-Paula Torres, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 and then defeated LBSU's Sadaf Sadeghvaziri in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

UH's Dolakova is on a three-match win streak and her singles win against Long Beach State clinched UH's win over the 49ers. She is now 4-7 overall. Playing on the No. 4 court, Pribylova raised her overall record to 4-7 by capturing a pair of three-set victories last week.

Tuesday's match is the Aggies' Big West opener.
