LONG BEACH, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (2-1, 1-0 Big West) opened their conference season with a 5-2 win at Long Beach State (2-2, 1-1 BWC). It is the third straight for the Rainbow Wahine over the 49ers.
 
Hawai'i captured the doubles point to start the day. UH's No. 2 duo of Petra Melounova and Roxanne Resma defeated LBSU's Lalita Devarakonda and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri, 6-2. UH's No. 3 team of Marina Hruba and Alzbeta Houbova then knocked off Carlota Casasampere and Georgia Gulin, 6-2 to take the early lead in the match, 1-0.
 
In singles, Hawai'i's No. 1 Melounova started things off with a straight set win over Pacholski, 7-5, 6-2. For Melounova, it marked her third straight win to raise her overall record to 4-1. UH's No. 5 Michelle Pits followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sadeghvaziri. Pits is now 7-3 overall this season. Long Beach State then took the next two matches on the No. 6 and No. 2 courts. But UH's Dolakova then clinched the match winning her third straight singles match, defeating Devarakonda, in a three-set battle. Helgo took the first set, but Dolakova fought all the way back and finished by edging out Helgo in a tiebreaker to win, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4). UH's No. 4 Klara Pribylova then closed the match out by holding off Maren Helgo, 7-5, 6-7 (2), 6-3.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will finish their first roadtrip of 2018 with their second Big West road match at UC Davis on Tuesday, February 13 at 1:30 pm.
