WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team began play at the 27
th Amer Ari Invitational with a first round 308 Thursday at the Waikoloa Resort Kings' Course.
No. 16 Texas (279) holds a one stroke over No. 2 Oklahoma State (280) while three others – No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 14 Texas Tech and No. 40 TCU – are two strokes back (281) heading into Friday's second round.
Cameron Kaneko and
Trevor Hirata posted 4-over 76 to pace the Rainbow Warriors.
Justin Arcano fired 77 and
Desmond Mello carded a 79.
Taiga Iwasa rounded out the UH contingent with a first round 80.
Georgia Tech's Tyler Strafaci holds the individual lead at 6-under 66. A group of five golfers are two strokes back at 4-under 68 including Texas teammates Doug Ghim and Spencer Soosman.
The tournament continues with Round 2 on Friday and wraps up with the final round on Saturday.
