HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball will open the 2019 season ranked No. 3 in the preseason AVCA Top 15 Coaches Poll, its highest since opening at No. 3 in 2005.
The Rainbow Warriors concluded the 2018 season ranked No. 5 in the final poll and returns nearly their entire starting line-up from a year ago including All-Americans
Stijn van Tilburg,
Joe Worsley,
Rado Parapunov, and
Patrick Gasman.
Defending national champion Long Beach State received all 16 first place votes and was picked No. 1 followed by UCLA, UH, UC Irvine, and BYU. Rounding out the Top 10 were Pepperdine, Lewis, Ohio State, Loyola-Chicago, and UC Santa Barbara.
Along with No. 11 CSUN, five of the Big West's six teams were ranked in the Top 15.
UH's 27-match regular season features 14 matches against nationally ranked teams including No. 1 LBSU, No. 4 UCI, No. 5 BYU, No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 10 UCSB, No. 11 CSUN, No. 12 Concordia-Irvine, and No. 13 Stanford.
Head coach
Charlie Wade will celebrate his 10
thseason and has compiled a 153-105 record with two appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Last season, the Warriors finished 19-8 and finished runner-up in the Big West Conference.
