COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Hawai'i kicker
Ryan Meskell received the Mountain West's Special Teams Player of the Week award after helping the Rainbow Warriors' to a dramatic 44-41 road win over San Jose State in five overtimes.
The junior from Gold Coast, Australia, tied his career-high with three field goals made, including a pair of overtime field goals. After converting on a 25-yard attempt in UH's opening drive, Meskell missed his first two field goal attempts in overtime. However, he rebounded to nail his next two—first a 35-yarder to force a fifth overtime and then another 35-yarder on UH's next offensive possession that proved to be the eventual game-winner.
Meskell, who is second on the team in scoring (50), is 7-of-9 on field goals and 29-of-30 on PATs this season. Meskell is the fifth UH player to win the MW Special Teams Player of the Week award and first since
Viane Moala in 2016.
The Warriors (5-1) look for their third straight win when they host Wyoming in Mountain West matchup this Saturday at Aloha Stadium. Kickoff is at 6:00 p.m.
