HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team continues its busy non-conference schedule this week as they battle Washington in their first dual match of the season on Friday, Jan. 12 followed by their second tournament, the Rainbow Wahine Invitational which features Florida State and Utah. The tournament runs from Saturday, Jan. 13 – Sunday, Jan. 14 at the UH Tennis Complex.  It will be the season openers for both Washington and Utah.
 
The 'Bows are coming off their grueling, season-opening, five-day Weinman Foundation Invitational tournament in which the Rainbow Wahine battled No. 11 California, CSUN, No. 25 TCU, Texas A&M and Washington State.
 
Leading the Rainbow Wahine into their second week of action in 2018 is sophomore Michelle Pits. The Aussie-native posted a perfect 4-0 record in the Weinman Invitational with two wins vs. CSUN, a win over No. 71, TCU's  Aleksa Cveticanin and Texas A&M's Riley McQuaid. Pits won her final two matches via third-set tiebreakers. Her last match vs. McQuaid finished a day later after rain halted play on Sunday night. Pits began the continued match down 1-3 in the third set tiebreaker, but she came back to remain unbeaten by edging out McQuaid, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9.
 
Also having early success in the first week was sophomore Alzbeta Houbova who posted a 3-1 singles record and Roxanne Resma who tallied a 3-2 singles match in the tourney.
 
In doubles, UH started the season strong recording a 13-4 combined doubles record as a team. UH's duo of Nikola Dolakova and Klara Pribylova went a perfect 5-0 to start the season.  The pair ended the tourney with a dominant 6-0 win over Cal's Olivia Hauger and Maria Smith. Hawai'i's Marina Hruba and Houbova also did well in the tournament notching a 3-0 record together in the first week.
