HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team opened their 2018 season by hosting the first day of the Weinman Foundation Invitational at the UH Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon. The Rainbow Wahine posted solid results winning three of their four doubles matches and five of their seven singles matches against players from CSUN and Washington State to start the five-day tournament.
 
The day started off with doubles play. UH's duo of Taylor Lau and Alzbeta Houbova nearly blanked CSUN's Scout Shutter and Emma Roenholt, 6-1 while Hawai'i's No. 1 pair from last season, Petra Melounova and Roxanne Resma held off the Matadors' Skyla Alcon and Monika Van de Vondel by a break, 6-4. UH's Klara Pribylova and Nikola Dolakova also won by a break over Washington State's Guzal Yusuprova and Michaela Bayerlova, 6-4.
 
In singles, both Michelle Pits and Dolakova won in straight sets. Pits defeated CSUN's Alicia Dinklemeyer, 6-2, 6-1 while Dolakova knocked off Kiryang Kim (CSUN), 6-1, 6-4. UH's Resma, Pribylova, and Houbova all won via third set tie-breakers. Resma held off Washington State's Aneta Miksovska, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. Pribylova also won the first set, dropped the second frame and held off her opponent, WSU's Melisa Ates, 6-3, 3-6, 12-10. Houbova fell in her opening set, but bounced back to defeat CSUN's Arpe Bagumyan, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
 
The Weinman Foundation Invitational continues on Friday morning with first serve slated for 9:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex. Friday's matches will once again feature UH, CSUN and Washington State.
