FULLERTON, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team (8-5, 2-0 Big West) heads to California this week for their first roadtrip of the year. The Rainbow Wahine will take their six-match win streak to Cal State Fullerton (4-11, 0-3 Big West) and UC Riverside (8-7, 0-3 Big West) this week. The 'Bows will battle the Titans on Friday, Sept. 29 at Titan Gym at 4:00 p.m. HT followed by taking on the Highlanders on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 4:00 p.m. HT.
This past week, the Rainbow Wahine extended their home conference win streak, which dates back to 2014, to 21 matches after opening the 2017 Big West season with wins over UC Irvine and UC Davis in the friendly confines of the Stan Sheriff Center. Junior outside hitter
McKenna Granato continued to lead UH's offense racking up a team-high 28 kills for the weekend. She also led the 'Bows with three service aces while posting 18 digs and three total blocks. Overall, Granato ranks fourth in the league with 192 kills and a 4.09 kills per set average.
Senior middle hitter
Emily Maglio was steady as ever last week with 25 kills and a team-high .415 hitting percentage and 10 total blocks (three solo). In the conference opener, Maglio recorded a match-high 13 kills with no errors in 28 swings for a match-high .464 hitting percentage. Overall, the Canadian native leads the Big West with 72 total blocks and a 1.47 blocks per set average. She also ranks No. 3 in the Big West with a .376 hitting percentage. Overall, Maglio is second on the team with 144 kills.
Senior libero
Savanah Kahakai passed the 1,200 career dig milestone after recording a match-high 24 digs against UC Irvine and 14 more in the sweep against UC Davis. Her career total is now 1,203 and she needs just 17 more digs to tie former UH All-American Kanoe Kamana'o for No. 6 in UH's career record book with 1,220 digs. Kahakai is second on the squad with 40 assists and 12 service aces. This season, she has recorded nine double-digit dig matches--including seven out of the last eight matches. She has four 20+ dig matches this year.
Sophomore setter
Norene Iosia orchestrated the Hawai'i offense which had a balanced attack in both matches--including nine players with kills against the Anteaters. She helped three Rainbow Wahine achieve double-digit kills in each of the last two matches. Iosia leads the Big West with 22 service aces (.45 service aces per set) and has dished out 504 assists thus far. She passed the 1,400 assist mark this past week and now has a career total of 1,475. Iosia is also second on the team with 142 digs .
