Soccer Back On The Road To Face Arizona State, Grand Canyon

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team continues its string of seven consecutive road games when it visits Arizona State on Sept. 15 and Grand Canyon on Sept. 17.

The Rainbow Wahine (3-4) are coming off a 2-0 win at Idaho State on Sept. 5, as junior goalkeeper Alexis Mata made eight saves to record her first career shutout en route to Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors. Senior Sonest Furtado had a goal and an assist in the win, snapping UH's four-game scoreless streak. Sophomore Mikaelah Johnson-Griggs also scored her first career goal in the game, and currently ranks third on the team with three points this season.

The 'Bows are 0-2 all-time against Arizona State, falling 5-2 in the last meeting between the two teams, in 2014. Friday's matchup will be the first in Tempe, Ariz., between the 'Bows and Sun Devils.

Graham Winkworth is in his first season as the head coach at ASU after going 66-16-7 in four seasons at South Alabama with four NCAA tournament berths including a trip to the round of 32 in 2015. Arizona State is 2-3-1 entering the week, snapping a three-game winless streak with a 2-1 win over Florida Gulf Coast in its most recent outing.

Grand Canyon is 3-4-1 on the season entering the week, and will host Stetson on Sept. 14 before welcoming UH. Mila Benedetti and Madison Cox each have two goals for the 'Lopes, while McKenzie Cook and Anyssa De Vera have three points each with a goal and an assist. Blakely Fraasch has logged all 745 minutes in goal for GCU, entering the week with an impressive 0.85 goals-against average and a .806 save percentage. Sunday's matchup will be the first all-time meeting between the Rainbow Wahine and 'Lopes.
