Izzy Leung and sophomore
Kaci Masuda each shot 73 to lead the University of Hawai'i women's golf team in the first round of the Silverado Showdown Sunday at the Silverado Resort and Spa.
The Rainbow Wahine carded a 299 and is currently tied for ninth place, ahead of three nationally ranked teams. No. 3 Stanford (283) holds a one-stroke lead over No. 6 UCLA (284) heading into Monday's second round. Co-hosts No. 33 Colorado and No. 48 Oregon are tied for third at 290 followed by No. 13 Northwestern (291).
Leung and Masuda are tied for 21
st at 1-over, six strokes off the lead held by Gonzaga's Bianca
Pagdanganan, who carded 5-under 67. A group of three golfers are tied for second at 4-under including UCLA's Mariel Galdiano and Bethany Wu.
The UH duo combined for eight birdies in the their round. Senior
Daezsa Tomas parred her first 11 holes en route to a 4-over 76. Freshman
Megan Ratcliffe is one stroke back at 77 while senior
Raquel Ek opened with a 78.
The Rainbow Wahine bested No. 35 Pepperdine (301), No. 39 San Jose State (302) and No. 36 Texas Tech (303) in an 18-team field that includes 10 nationally ranked teams.
