INDIAN WELLS, Calif.—The top-seeded University of Hawai'i women's team opened the 2017 Big West Championship tournament with a sweep over No. 8 UC Irvine in the quarterfinals on Friday morning. The Rainbow Wahine defeated the Anteaters, 4-0 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and will battle No. 4 Cal State Fullerton in the semifinals on Saturday.
 
Hawai'i earned the doubles point to start the match with wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. UH's No. 3 duo of Marina Hruba and Michelle Pits blanked UC Irvine's Cassidy Branstine and Stephanie Nguyen, 6-0. Hawai'i's No. 1 team of Petra Melounova and Roxanne Resma defeated Vivien Dvali Hali Dickson, 6-2.
 
In singles, the Rainbow Wahine won the first three to complete the sweep over the Anteaters. No. 2 Hruba dispatched Stephanie Hazell, 6-1, 6-2 to start things off. Resma then defeated Branstine on the No. 3 court, 6-2, 6-0 followed by Klara Pribylova who cruised past Jacqueline Tsodikova in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3 to clinch the match.
 
The Rainbow Wahine advances to Saturday's semifinals against fourth-seeded Cal State Fullerton. The Titans edged out the No. 5 Matadors on Friday's quarterfinal match, 4-3.
