RIVERSIDE, Calif. – University of Hawai'i senior
Izzy Leung fired an even par 72 Sunday in the first round of the Big West Conference Championship at Oak Quarry Golf Club.
Leung is two strokes off the individual lead held by UC Riverside's
Jakeishya Le, who carded a 2-under 70. Leung posted three birdies and three bogeys and is in a four-way tie for sixth heading into Monday's second round.
As a team, the Rainbow Wahine are also in sixth place at 303, 14 strokes behind leader Cal Poly (289). UCR is second (296) followed by UC Davis (297), Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine (302), UH, CSUN (305), and Long Beach State (311).
Senior
Daezsa Tomas is two strokes behind Leung at 2-over 74 and is tied for 12
th place. Senior
Raquel Ek seemed to righted the ship after a open-hole double bogey but carded two more double bogeys in her final three holes en route to a 78. Sophomore
Kaci Masuda and freshman
Megan Ratcliffe each shot 79 and are tied for 27
th place.
Leung has two career Top 10 finishes at the Big West Championship, including third place last year.
