MALIBU, Calif. – The No. 5 University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team continues its spring break road trip through Southern California with a matchup against No. 2 Pepperdine Wednesday, March 29 at Zuma Beach. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. PT/10:00 a.m. HT.
UH started its eight-match road trip this past Sunday by going 3-0 in the Shave Ice Invitational in Irvine, Calif., with wins over Irvine Valley College, TCU, and Stanford. UH (15-2) has won four straight matches and six of its last seven.
Pepperdine (12-1) is even hotter with 11 straight wins. The Waves have won 80 of their last 83 total sets played and their last five-matches have been straight-set sweeps. UH is 1-7 all-time against the Waves with the Bows' lone win coming in 2015, 3-2, in Honolulu. The teams will meet again in Honolulu, when the UH hosts Pepperdine, April 7-8.
Following its match versus Pepperdine, the Rainbow Wahine will travel back down south to Huntington Beach for the Big West Challenge, April 1-2. UH will take on four of its league foes –Long Beach State, Cal Poly, Sacramento State, and CSUN – over the course of two days.
UH will open the event against No. 6 LBSU in a battle between the league's heavyweights. The 49ers (12-3) only losses this year have come against top-5 squads Florida State, Pepperdine, and UCLA.
The SandsBows are 8-4 all-time against LBSU and undefeated in three combined meetings against Cal Poly (2-0), and CSUN (1-0). This will be the fist time UH plays Sacramento State.
The Challenge will be a prelude to the Big West Championship to be held, April 28-29, in Pismo Beach, Calif.
