Women's Tennis To Battle Elon At Home, No. 5 Stanford On The Road This Week

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (8-4, 4-0 Big West) looks to get back on track as they take on Elon (13-6, 0-0 CAA) of the Colonial Athletic Associaion on Wednesday, March 22 at home before heading to California to begin a three-match California roadtrip at No. 5 Stanford (11-1, 1-0 Pac-12) on Sunday, March 26.
 
For the first time this season, the Rainbow Wahine dropped two straight dual matches to Gonzaga and Fresno State last week. The loss to Gonzaga snapped UH's seven-match win streak. Cindy Nguyen continues to lead the 'Bows overall with a 10-5 singles record and a 7-3 mark at No. 1 singles. Both Petra Melounova and Marina Hruba have nine wins apiece with Melounova going 7-1 in dual matches primarily on the No. 2 court. Hruba is 9-2 with seven of her wins coming at No. 3.
 
In doubles, Hawai'i has used 14 different combinations. UH's duo of Nguyen and Klara Pribylova has been the most successful with an 8-3 overall record. They are 5-2 at No. 2 and 2-1 at No. 1. Melounova and Roxanne Resma have played primarily on the No. 1 court with a 5-2 record.
 
Both Elon's women's and men's tennis teams have made the trip from Elon, North Carolina to Honolulu for this week's matches. The Phoenix have won four of their last five matches, with the one loss coming to Winthrop on March 12.  Six of their eight players already have double-digits in the win colum, led by Maria Paraga and Suzanne Zenoni who both have 17-8 overall records. In doubles, Elon's duo of Erica Braschi and Olivia Lucas lead the team with an 11-4 overall and dual record going 5-3 at No. 2 and 6-1 at No. 3.
 
No. 5 Stanford has won their last seven straight matches. Their one loss this season came at No. 1 Florida on Feb. 19. Six of the Cardinal players are ranked in the ITA—No. 14 Melissa Lord, No. 43 Taylor Davidson, No. 50 Emma Higuchi, No. 51 Caroline Doyle, No. 53 Caroline Lampl, No. 95 Emily Arbuthnott. In doubles, two of their pairs are also ranked: No. 47 Doyle/Lord and No. 56 Davidson/Arbthnott.
