LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team carded rounds of 287 and 293 on the first day of the Jackrabbit Invitational Friday at the Siena Golf Club. The tournament is hosted by South Dakota State.
The Rainbow Warriors are currently in 11
th place with a 4-over 580 total. Nevada (543) holds a commanding 11-stroke lead over UNLV (554) heading into Saturdays' third and final round.
Sophomore
Cameron Kaneko leads the UH contingent at even par 144 following rounds of 73 and 71 and is tied for 30
th. Freshman
Desmond Mello is three strokes at 3-over 147 after carding 72 and 75 and is tied for 49
th.
Senior
Pono Tokioka and junior
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon are tied for 49
th at 148 while sophomore
Sam Schwartz is tied for 62
nd at 155. Schwartz shot the low round of the day for the Warriors with a 2-under 70 in Round 1 while Kittirattanapaiboon also went under par with a second round 71.
Nevada's Grant Booth is the individual leader at 10-under 134 with consecutive rounds of 67. He leads the tourney by one stroke over a pack of five which includes teammate Travis Fredborg.
