Men's Basketball Hosts Cal Poly In Big West Matchup

GAME NOTES

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team looks to keep pace in the Big West race when it hosts a pair of games this week, beginning with a matchup wit Cal Poly (7-16, 2-7 BWC) on  Thursday, Feb. 9. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
 
UH (11-11, 5-4 BWC) is coming off a road sweep of UC Riverside and CSUN that has put the fourth-place Rainbow Warriors within 1.5 games of first place in the Big West. The Rainbow Warriors are on a season-long three-game win streak and have now won five of their last seven games.
 
Noah Allen was named Big West Athlete of Week for the second time in the last four weeks after tying his career-high with 34 points at CSUN last Saturday.  The senior forward has been a major reason for UH's recent success., averaging 23.4 ppg while shooting 60 percent over the last seven games. Allen has three 30-point performances in the last six contests alone.
 
UH leads the Big West in free throw percentage (.746) and went a combined 34-of-41 (.829) during its road wins at UCR and CSUN. UH also leads the Big West in turnovers forced per game (14.0), while Cal Poly leads the Big West and ranks sixth nationally in fewest turnovers committed per game (10.2).
 
Following its game versus Cal Poly, UH will host second-place UC Irvine (13-12, 6-3, BWC), on Saturday, Feb. 11 as part of a double-header with the women's team.

About Cal Poly:  The Mustangs are in eighth in the BIg West with a 2-7 mark...both their wins however have come against the top two teams in the league in UC Davis and UC Irvine...Cal Poly leads the Big West and ranks sixth in the nation in fewest turnovers per game (10.2)...junior guard Victor Joseph leads a balanced attack at 11.3 ppg...Cal Poly is 2-10 on the road this year.
