WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team improved four strokes from its first round score but still dropped one spot in the standings following Friday's second round of the Amer Ari Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings' Course.
The Rainbow Warriors sit in 17
th place with a two-round total of 8-over 584 (294-290).
Defending champion No. 7 USC posted the low score of the day (268) to take over the top spot in the team standings at 541, one stroke better than No. 18 Texas Tech. Sixth-ranked Stanford and No. 28 Colorado are tied for third at 560 followed by No. 20 Oregon (561).
UH sophomore
Cameron Kaneko shot even par 72 and is tied for 36
th at 2-under 142. Senior
Pono Tokioka was the lone Warrior to shoot under par on the day with a 1-under 71 and is tied for 61
st at 1-over 145. Sophomore
Sam Schwartz posted his second straight 74 and is 4-over 148 (t-79
th) for the tourney.
Also competing for UH is freshman
Nick Nelson, who improved seven strokes with a 1-over 73 and is tied for 108
th at 153 while fellow freshman
Trevor Hirata posted 82 and is 118
th place at 158.
The tournament concludes with the third and final round on Saturday.
