HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team won its fourth-straight match with a 5-2 win over BYU on Thursday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. Hawai'i has now won five of its last six matches.
 
The Rainbow Wahine captured the doubles point winning two of three matches. UH's No. 1 duo of Petra Melounova and Roxanne Resma defeated Kate Cusick and Taylah Beckman, 6-1 to start the day. BYU evened things up with a win at No. 3 with the Cougars' Polina Malykh and Natella Nabieva holding off Marina Hruba and Michelle Pits, 6-1. But Hawai'i's No. 2 team of Cindy Nguyen and Klara Pribylova combined to down BYU's Savannah Ware-Avina and Samantha Smith 6-2 to earn the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.
 
In singles, the 'Bows won the first four matches to clinch the win. Melounova held off Ware-Avina, 7-5,6-3 on the No. 2 court. Melounova has now won five of her last six matches with one match going unfinished. She is now 5-1 in dual matches and continues her strong season as a freshman. Hruba then defeated Malykh at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2. For Hruba, it marked her fourth-straight win, the last three coming in straight sets all on the No. 3 court.
 
Nguyen clinched the win by defeating Nabieva in straight sets on the No. 1 court, 6-3, 6-4. It was Nguyen's sixth straight win—the last five of which coming on the No. 1 court. She is now 6-1 in dual matches and has won five of her six matches in straight sets. 
 
No. 4 Resma then knocked off Smith in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. For Resma, it was her fourth straight win all at No. 4.
 
Hawai'i's Nikola Dolakova made her first appearance of the season, falling in a tight match on the No. 6 court, 7-5, 6-3.  In the longest match of the day, BYU's Cusick edged out UH's Pits by a break in the third set on the No. 5 court, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
