IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak with a 73-60 win at UC Irvine on Thursday night.
Leah Salanoa led the offensive charge for the Rainbow Wahine (9-17, 5-9 Big West), connecting on a career-high six 3-pointers to score a career-high 20 points. Salanoa hit 6-of-11 3-point attempts and 6-of-12 shots in the game, and converted both of her free throw attempts.
Sarah Toeaina added 14 points and seven rebounds for Hawai'i,
Briana Harris finished with nine points, and
Olivia Crawford added eight points, five rebounds and four assists. Hawai'i tallied a season-high 21 assists in the game and shot 46.6 percent from the field.
The Rainbow Wahine also dominated the glass with a 44-25 rebounding advantage, including a 13-5 edge on the offensive end, resulting in a 16-3 lead in second-chance points for Hawai'i.
Irene Chavez led all scorers in the game with 22 points for UC Irvine (4-23, 2-11 Big West), while Brooke Bayman added 11 for the Anteaters. Shereen Sutherland had nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds for UC Irvine.
Hawai'i will play its final road game of the regular-season at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (HT) before returning home to host Long Beach State on Senior Night on March 4. The Big West Tournament is March 7-11, beginning in Long Beach, Calif.
