LIHU'E, Kaua'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team shot 301, Thursday in Round 2 of the 41
st John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Wailua Golf Course and is currently in 16
th place.
Fourth-ranked Virginia continues to hold onto the team lead at 25-under 551 followed by No. 18 Texas A&M (557), No. 23 UNLV (566), No. 46 Brigham Young (570), and Santa Clara (570). Individually, Texas A&M's Chandler Phillips carded 6-under 66 and leads the tourney by three strokes over Virginia's Jimmy Stanger, the first round leader who shot 74 on Thursday.
UH sophomore
Cameron Kaneko fired a 1-over 73 and is 1-over 145 for the tourney and tied for 35
th place. Sophomore
Sam Schwartz posted the Warriors' best score of the day at even par 72 and is 8-over 152 for the tourney, tied for 85
th place along with Kaua'i native
Pono Tokioka, who struggled with a second round 80.
Freshmen
Nick Nelson is tied for 93
rd at 153 and
Trevor Hirata is tied for 102
nd at 157.
Junior
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon (73) leads the UH contingent of individuals at 1-over 145 and tied for 35
th. Kaua'i-native
Bryden Salvador posted his second straight 78 and is tied for 100
th (156). Two strokes back is freshman
Taiga Iwasa (158) followed by freshman
Desmond Mello (161) and freshman Shane Snow (166).
The tournament concludes on Friday with the third and final round with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start.
