RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team leads the Battle at the Rock by five strokes following Monday's first two rounds at the Oak Quarry Golf Club.
The Rainbow Wahine fired rounds of 300 and 299 for a 599 total, five strokes better than Cal Poly (604) in the 15-team field that includes six Big West Conference schools. Northern Arizona (612) is third followed by host UC Riverside (613) and Grand Canyon (614).
UH enters Tuesday's final round with a chance to capture its first tournament title since the 2015 Hobble Creek Fall Classic. The Rainbow Wahine have three team titles in the program's history and only one in the last 20 years.
Individually, senior
Izzy Leung is four strokes behind leader Sofia Anokhina of Northern Arizona. Leung shot consecutive rounds of 74 and is 4-over 148, tied for fifth place. The Shatin, Hong Kong native has one career win under her belt at the 2014 Oregon State Invitational.
Cal State Fullerton's Martina Edberg and Pauline Welker are in a three-way tie for second place with Cal Poly's Desiree Gillaspy at 2-over 146. UH sophomore
Kaci Masuda is one stroke back at 149 following rounds of 74 and 75 and is in seventh place. Senior
Daezsa Tomas is tied for 16
th at 152 (78-74) while freshman
Megan Ratcliffe is tied for 26
th at 154 (74-80).
Also competing for UH is senior
Raquel Ek, who is tied for 62
nd at 162 (86-76).
The tournament concludes with Wednesday's third and final round with a 8:00 a.m. PT (6:00 a.m. HT) shotgun start.
