Softball Signs Four For 2019

HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i softball head coach Bob Coolen announced the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent to play for the Rainbow Wahine in 2019. The two pitchers and two catchers who will be joining the softball 'ohana are Kaeli Bush, Isabella Dino, Mikaela Gandia-Mak, and Ashley Murphy.

Kaeli Bush (5-7 • Catcher • Freshman • Salinas, Calif./Notre Dame HS)
Kaeli Bush is a 5-7 right-handed catcher from Salinas, Calif. who is currently a senior at Notre Dame High School. Last season as a junior, Bush hit .425 (37-for-87) with 16 runs scored, 24 RBI, 12 doubles and five home runs.

Bush, who's middle name is Kealaho'onauonaku'upuamaeolenonakauakau has local roots in Hawai'i. She is a solid catcher with a great skill set. "She is a good receiver who works well with pitchers. She blocks the ball well, reads runners well and calls a very smart game," says Coolen.

Isabella "Izzy" Dino (6-2 • Pitcher • Freshman • North Vancouver, B.C., Canada/West Vancouver Secondary)
Dino is the first ever Canadian recruit for Coolen. At 6-2, she is a big presence on the mound who fires hard in the mid-60's. The right-hander is a downball pitcher with a full arsenal of pitches. Dino was a member of the U17 Canadian National team. "Izzy has really worked hard being able to set up hitters well. She has tremendous upside and will only grow stronger as a Rainbow Wahine pitcher," says Coolen.

Mikaela Gandia-Mak (5-4 • Catcher • Freshman • San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS)
Gandia-Mak is a 5-4 catcher who has played three varsity seasons at San Clemente High School in San Clemente, Calif. Mak is a right-handed catcher who hits left. Last year, she hit .378 as a junior last season for the Tritons. She possesses a high softball IQ with competitive awareness and is adept at calling her own game. Gandia-Mak plays on one of the top five club teams in the country. "Mikaela is a contact hitter who is a great situational hitter with the ability to move runners up and take what the defense gives her," says Coolen.

Ashley Murphy (5-6 • Pitcher • Freshman • Granada Hills, Calif./El Camino Real Charter HS)
Murphy is a 5-6 right-handed pitcher who has played for Granada Hills Charter High School for the last three years. As a Highlander junior, she posted a 4-2 record with a 1.11 ERA. She will compete for the No. 1 spot in the rotation next season. Murphy throws in the mid-60's and has command and confidence in her pitches. She comes from one of the top five club programs in the country. "Ashley has all the pitches—screwball, drop, drop curve, change up and rise ball—and she is competitive with the willingness to be a team player," states Coolen.
