HONOLULU – The Rainbow Wahine offense dominated on Wednesday night as the Hawai'i women's basketball team cruised to an 85-34 victory over UH Hilo in exhibition action in the Stan Sheriff Center.
The 'Bows shot 52.5 percent (31-of-59) from the field for the game, six Rainbow Wahine players scored in double figures and UH dished out 18 assists with just 11 turnovers in the game.
Senior
Sarah Toeaina lead all players with 13 points and added seven rebounds and two assists. Redshirt freshman
Amy Atwell and
Lahni Salanoa each added 12 points for UH. Salanoa hit 4-of-5 attempts from the field and 3-of-4 free throws and added three steals.
Rachel Odumu and
Makenna Woodfolk each scored 11 points for the Rainbow Wahine. Woodfolk grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for a double-double. Sophomore
Julissa Tago stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, three assists, two steals and two rebounds for UH.
Hawai'i held a 47-24 rebounding advantage in the game and a 12-8 edge on the offensive glass. The 'Bows dominated in the paint, where they out-scored the Vulcans 42-8.
It wasn't just the UH offense that sparked the one-sided victory. The 'Bows held UH Hilo to just 22.6 percent shooting from the field, and turned 16 Vulcan turnovers into 18 points on the other end.
Hawai'i opens the regular season next week with a trip to the Pacific Northwest to face Portland (Nov. 10) and Seattle U (Nov. 12). The 2017-18 home-opener is Nov. 17 against Northern Arizona as the Bank of Hawai'i Classic tips off.
