FAIRFAX, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team completed the first day of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational Monday at the Meadow Club with a freshman competing in his first collegiate tournament leading the way.
Freshman
Justin Arcano fired rounds of 72 and 74 for a 4-over 146 total and is tied for 57
th place heading into Tuesday's third and final round. The Wailuku, Maui native carded eight birdies – four in each round – during the day.
The Rainbow Warriors sit in 16
th place with a 594 total (295-299). Host California is the team leader (539), holding a seven-stroke lead over San Diego State (546).
UH junior
Sam Schwartz is tied for 72
nd at 149 (73-76) while junior
Cameron Kaneko (77-74) and
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon (76-75) are two strokes back at 151. Freshman
Justin Ngan, a prep teammate of Arcano at Baldwin High, is also competing in his first collegiate tourney and is in 87
th place at 155 (74-81).
Cal's K.K. Limbhasut has a one-stroke lead over SJSU's Kevin Velo in the individual standings. Limbhasut 13-under 129 following rounds of 64 and 65.
